October 24 Well, last night I fell asleep around 9pm and slept until 1am and then couldn't sleep for about 3 hours. I hope I get back to normal sleep tonight. We had a good breakfast which was a large buffet with everything you can imagine. I was hoping to just relax by the pool today but mom really wanted to go for a walk (believe it or not). I told her that it would be hard for her but she insisted. Turns out the Victoria & Alfred Marketplace Wharf is really close and the hotel staff encouraged us to go.
The walk to it takes about 5 mins. and you walk through the multi-hotel complex lanes. It was a great place with lots of shops and restaurants. Kind of like Granville Island. We walked quite a bit and looked through the shops. Didn't buy anything yet though. Turns out we get time to go out there tomorrow too. There was live entertainment as well as many school kids on a field trip dancing to the music. It was fun to watch them. Cape Town is very clean and has nice mountains. Of course, we haven't seen much of it yet. It's warm here, although it was mostly overcast today.
We came back to the hotel and laid by the pool for a couple of hours. When we got back to our room, we received a note from our tour guide letting us know the agenda for the next few days. It's gonna be early mornings for the next few days but I'm excited. Went and had dinner in the dining room. I ordered the Filet Mignon and it tasted a bit different but it was tender. Mom ordered beef vegetable soup and prawns but didn't like it very much. By the way, the waitress was telling us she makes 13 rand an hour (1.39 Cdn.) and pays 2000 (213. rand a month for her apartment. It's the same relativity as home I guess. Except in Canada someone on minimum wage couldn't find a place to stay for a quarter of their gross income. hmmmm We have a briefing tomorrow where we will finally meet our fellow tourists & tour guide. We will be going up Table Mountain in a cable car to see the view, drive through the Moorish Malay Quartre and see Milnerton Lighthouse. Later on we get a true African dining experience complete with African drumming and get to sample 16 local delicacies
Oct. 25 again. Computer just told me I'm gonna lose power again. It's been charging all day. AAAARGH! Anyways here's yesterday's pics. I'm back in the bathroom outlet. Seems to keep the computer on. (?)
