Can't believe I'm in South Africa. We made it after an 11 hour flight. British Airways is a great airline. However, it is tiring and we are both wiped. Was met by a 'meet & greet' gentleman at the airport. He was Mr. Personality. It was a relief to see him. He immediately took our luggage cart and took us to our car & driver. Our driver was also very nice. He had moist towels for us and a mini bar with essentials like spectacle cleaner with cloth, sunscreen, hand lotion, tissues and cold water. It is nice and sunny in Cape Town and the temperature is around 22 C.
We got to
The Commodore Hotel and was greeted by many bellmen and doormen with very welcoming smiles. The service here is incredible. We got to the hotel at 10am and our room was ready. Thank God!!! They even rush to the elevator to push the button for you. Once we got to our floor, every housekeeper smiled and greeted us, The room is very nice. The beds are kind of hard but comfortable. We had a nap immediately and woke up about 4 hours later.
I felt a lot better after a little bit of sleep since I felt like a zombie earlier. We went to the courtyard and I had 2 margaritas. They tasted AND felt good (haha). Mom had a glass of wine. We then had some dinner. She had ostrich and I had chicken curry. It was delicious and the service is wonderful. Everyone is very personable and friendly.
Tomorrow morning, we will probably meet our tour guide and the rest of the people on our tour who will be arriving. We have another free day tomorrow to recuperate. I've been reassured by many that Cape Town is very safe and it's okay to walk around on my own. Apparently Johannesburg is the place that is unsafe. In any case, I don't think I'll be going anywhere tomorrow on my own except the pool and bar. It is 8pm so I think I'll go to bed. I'm glad we are staying here for 4 nights. The real adventure is about to begin.
